Baptist Health purchases VyStar Credit Union building to create new health and wellness center on Fleming Island

86,000-square-foot facility will complement Baptist Clay’s new full-service hospital

Jacksonville, Fla., Jan. 7, 2021— Baptist Health has purchased the VyStar Credit Union property located at 2310 Village Square Parkway on Fleming Island. The facility is adjacent to the existing Baptist Clay Medical Campus, which is currently expanding to become a full-service 100-bed hospital opening in the fall of 2022.

“With VyStar’s 11 additional acres, our new hospital will encompass more than 40 acres, giving us room to expand to meet the health needs of the growing Clay County community,” said Darin Roark, hospital president for Baptist Clay. “We are grateful to VyStar for providing us with the opportunity to expand our campus.”

Baptist Clay will renovate the 86,000-square-foot VyStar complex to create Baptist HealthPlace at Fleming Island, a health, wellness and medical complex which is expected to open in the fall of 2021. HealthPlace will have a wealth of health and wellness services, including Baptist Health primary care physicians and a variety of specialists.

HealthPlace will also have a Baptist Center for Healthy Living, which will provide personalized health coaching and assistance in navigating health care solutions, such as coordinating appointments and finding the right physicians and resources to live healthier lives.

Baptist Health announced plans for its new hospital in Clay County in early 2020. The 300,000-square-foot, full-service hospital will open with 100 beds, including women’s services and enhanced cardiology services. The hospital will be designed with modern features, including placing diagnostic equipment near the ICU for patients who need it the most, and corridors designed with calming LED lighting, and centralized staff services to minimize noise.

These services are in addition to those already existing at the Baptist Clay Campus in Fleming Island, which opened in May of 2013, and includes an adult ER, a Wolfson Children’s Hospital ER, an ambulatory surgery center, specialty services, and imaging.

Baptist Health is investing $200 million to build the new hospital, which will create 700 new jobs in Clay County.
